OOC News
Life has been hectic for the mods lately, we apologize!
Based on player feedback we have decided the following: the second mod event from last week is being moved to this week, and we will be making changes to the activity rules.
AC will now be done every 2 months, and characters require a total of 30 points to pass OR the total points for all of a player's characters must add up to equal thirty points per character. Due to the unexpected circumstances of this month, we will not be doing an AC for this month and the new rules will go into effect next month.
Additionally, we've decided that from now on we're going to try to only run one mod-event per week. That gives us some leeway if something like this happens again where all the mods end up being busy.
Last Week...
The game timeline is not remotely up to date! We will remedy this when we get the chance.
Sunday was THE LONGEST DAY EVER.
Lisa Martinez was attacked by Greycloaks and put out a call for help. She was rescued by the Ahura and taken to safety in the Undertow.
The Armaiti appeared by falling out of the sky on a giant fuck-off dragon, interrupting Lisa's chase. Siegmund has returned to Zenderael with her.
Nova panicked at Chisaki by text message.
Rhys confronted Reilanin about Jordan's death.
Ravindra asked Ezra for a transfer to the Nenakret and Ezra had the idea to send a detachment of paladins to work with the Amber Gaze long-term.
Next week...
Birthdays & Holidays
Theresa's birthday is on Monday the 12th.
Duncan's birthday is on Saturday the 17th.
Rosh Hashana begins on the evening of Friday the 16th and ends on the evening of Sunday the 18th.
You'll find a lot of American cities or businesses closed on Sunday the 11th due to this being a day of remembrance for the victims of the 9/11 attacks and veterans of the Iraq war.
So Here's the Deal…
Lisa will reveal that there is a magma leviathan named Kaga sleeping beneath Kandre Volcano, and the volcano's sudden activity is a result of his awakening. Nearby areas are in danger if the volcano erupts. She can't say exactly which areas are in danger due to the merging, but Astonea is certainly one of them.
Lisa thinks they have two weeks before Kaga causes a major eruption, but there is a way to prevent this. See, Kaga's been sleeping for a very long time. He's waking up irritated because he's hungry. If they can prepare a feast for him to calm him down before the major eruption, he'll be placated and Kandre Volcano's activity will cease.
Unfortunately, Kaga is a fussy eater. The food must be extremely high quality. Rare ingredients and amazing dishes will be necessary--and in vast quantity. This is a leviathan we're talking about!
Lisa will deliver this news in her safe haven at the Undertow; there is a discussion post for that here. Who's present for the initial announcement and how the news spreads is up to you. Mods will not be controlling the dissemination of information, and though we will step in to organize the feast OOCly if necessary, we would prefer if arrangements arose ICly instead. Please feel free to discuss the details in the comments!
Rocks Fall, (Not Quite) Everyone Dies
On Friday, Kandre Volcano lets out a thick plume of smoke and its tremors create a small landslide that causes minor damage to a nearby town. Astonea, sitting at the base of the volcano, was known in-game for being the closest save/restock point to the Kandre Volcano dungeon. After the landslide it becomes clear that the town must be evacuated, but Pakerion doesn't have the infrastructure for an organized evacuation.
There is a post on the OL comm calling for help to organize an evacuation. Any characters are free to participate, whether they want to help, hinder, or just loot the homes left behind. The event posts will go up on Friday, August 30th is up over here to give everyone some time to get non-event things done and to give the event threads time to run. Both the OL and RL posts will be forward-dated to IC Friday.
Once the evacuation begins, it will become clear that this is a much more urgent matter than originally thought. Geologists are seeing signs of a second, much more massive landslide (which may or may not include lava flow, they can't tell from here), and predict they have only hours to get everyone out of the area. To make matters worse, the volcano's sudden activity is also causing wild fire elementals to grow aggressive. They will harass Astonea's borders and disrupt the evacuation effort. This means the original rescuers may need rescuing themselves!
The second landslide will clear the way into Kaga's lair, making the leviathan accessible for feast arrangements.
Comments/questions/concerns? Feel free to use weekchange posts as discussion posts! If there's something you want to do in the coming week, you can comment about it here and let people know/sign up/whatever.
The next weekchange will be posted on September 15th RL-time.

GENERAL QUESTIONS
no subject
He will end up needing to be rescued during the second wave! I don't have any specific plans for any of this but I know I want these two things to be true.
I am also down for having him get trapped with someone, I think that could be fun depending on the person.
no subject
That proposal I kept alluding to needing to finish Sarai's app for is, I think it'd be cool if Sarai was (one of??) the one(s) to save Duncan from imminent burny peril.

If he is present he'll pass the info along to the Greycloaks. If Tavan is there it could be an opportunity for them to meet and discover fellow-Greycloak-ness? (also the fact that Tavan was recruited by his character, hah.)

Harriet would send aid to the evacuation and I think there were plans with Tyrus that would require her presence on the scene, so we might need to cook up an excuse for her to actually go there,

aw man that is so exciting
gOoD!
Ezra will be going in to help with the evacuation, but I think he will be there and hanging back and sending some pallies in, and will end up having to go in himself to help others! If that makes sense.
Ras will be one of those to go in.
None of mine can cook I don't think... :|a Theresa has some small ability but it's actually pretty boring food... (also happy birthday though i don't think anyone knows it lol)
I imagine there may be druids/mages helping with the whole landslide thing? If given a reason rei will go and help with that.
Uhhh who else can I involve...... :|a that's about it for now.

perhaps in cahoots with Gunnar. the perfect team-up aw yeah

.....i don't really have any particularly great ins to the feast for her although i could see someone getting her to forage for ingredients because she is nimble and also a meddler. She might also uhhhh "help" with "getting peoples' belongings" to "somewhere safe" during the evacuations.
Or tag the joint while nobody's looking. It's extra artistic when it's about to be destroyed by magma right?? That sounds like modern art, sure.

I mean of course she'll do it, but it's not helping.
Though comedy option this somehow ends up with TF getting conned/forced to wait the table or something mad. Yoiko thought she was kidding about Gunnar serving tea but we'll just see about that

Tai Fang, Nova, and Tavan (and Lisa) will all get a temporary place to stay and be told they can hang around for a while if they're worried about being pursued further.
Rhys will also go in with the first evacuation wave and be his usual reckless self, fighting off as many fire elementals as he can down to the wire. He will definitely need rescuing.
Missie will try baking for the first time since blindness if/when she catches wind of the feast.
I don't think I have anyone else! Victor can cook a few dishes and could be convinced to try with the right ingredients. Gunnar would just serve the dragon tea Gunnar this is not acceptable stop.

Or we could handwave and bump up a thank you into the current week to keep it more time relevant, if you'd rather. He does/did quite appreciate her help back there and was impressed by her moxie. If he ever managed to get her name he could d-mail her about it with a more proper thank you that may not have had a chance to happen in all the scrambling.

Also yes to Sieg/Tavan discovering each other! FELLOWS IN SNEAKY BUSINESS (he's gonna tell isn't he)
Mal will def be going in with the first evacuation wave. He wants to help however he can and figures the druids stand a better chance of helping out with the elementals than anyone else. 8|
Val will also be there with the druids Mal asks to go along and help out.
For the feast, Mal can do a bit of baking - he prides himself on his non-sugary cakes like coffee cakes and such - and he cooks really good. It's pretty much entirely all natural healthy stuff BUT DELICIOUS OK.
Oh and Tavan might go to the evacuation to see what he can lift while pretending to be helpful maybe.
I think that's all? Zach and Irena can't cook, Irena has no interest in helping with evacuations, and I'm not sure if I can get Zach to go but I guess we'll see how it gets announced.

Deathbringer would take the info as given and not ask anything more of Tavan for now, I think. Beyond a simple 'whatever else you can find out' directive
no subject
He might go seek Sieg out now and then once he knows because having people 'in the know' to talk to (even if you avoid talking about THAT) is kind of nice.

Actually it might be interesting to see what Tavan thinks finding out Sieg is DB's player - I don't think he's met both sides of a player/played pair yet. :x (at least not knowingly)
no subject
Actually it occurs to me that when he finds out DB is a Greycloak (inevitably), that'll clue him in about Tavan.
And I am down for that! Log?
no subject
Did we want to backdate it to when Tavan write to DB about what Lisa said or have it be a later communication from DB?
no subject
I'm fine with backdating it!
no subject
Chisaki won't be there for it, though. She'll be off doing something else.
Tyrus may in fact be there! I need to rap with Hibi on that.

Gabe will be sending some mages (and may make an appearance himself, I haven't decided yet) once the need for evacuation comes up. Warp mages make everything easier. :D Gabe, however, kind of fails at the whole warp thing, so he won't be creating any portals himself, but he'll happily be there in an organizational capacity.
Nayan, on the other hand, will be sneaking in and taking anything that looks remotely interesting. Sorry, people of Astonea. Your precious belongings may be gone when you get back. >>
