[modpost] feedback wanted on WARRRRR

Some questions for you!

1) Are there any specific directions and/or plots you would like to accomplish in regards to Aerveas' war?

2) Are there any specific directions and/or plots you would like to accomplish in regards to political relations between countries and/or guilds?

3) Do you have any other feedback in regards to how the war is being run?

Anon is enabled, IP logging is off, and screening is on! (If you would like your comment unscreened just lmk.) Comment anon or not anoned, whatever is more comfortable with you. Change up your syntax and typing style if you want, idc.

Be honest! Be truthful! This is not a promise to incorporate everything that might be said here. It is however an open ear because we WOULD like to incorporate player input into the war given that played characters are in positions of authority to alter the course of it.

A note: we will NOT guide your characters for you. If your character is in an IC position to affect the war but does not, that will be counted as IC inaction. If you are having trouble with the political aspect of the game, you are more than welcome to discuss matters with your fellow players and with us.

You may also use this post to ask questions regarding the war! But the mods reserve the right to not answer if we feel it is delving into spoiler territory.

1)
- As mentioned in the draft of the war post, once Safta's leaders were all played, the decision on when and to what extent to involve Safta in the war has been completely with Beth, Hibi, and you.

- Feel free to have Lera make her speech!

- We don't care much for super specifics, but we do like to have an idea like what you've provided in the war draft post.

- Non-lethal methods are a-ok. That would be hashed out with the muns (Beth and Hibi) and then run by us, or hashed out together.

- Rhys/Ezra addressed in the war draft post.

- Powerpuff codenames!

2)
- Once the war is finished, there won't be anything political on the same scale for a while if ever. That would depend on played character actions. There's the matter of a rulerless Pakerion but that players can choose the degree of their involvement in that, otherwise we'll take care of it offscreen. There will probably be some post-merge political stuff to address, also, but again, we can do it offscreen.

- Safta is free to return to neutrality.

- The additional class is a neat idea but not one we feel is necessary to consider right now.

3)
- We will be updating the lore/god page for more information about them. It is true however that the gods have been more active since the beginning of the (IC) year than they have in decades/centuries.

And they are immortal, like Xumurdad.

- Most military is non-guilded and guilded units are elite. See: Amber Gaze is like Navy Seals vs Safta's normal military.

- We will endeavor to continue with the rough outlines to major/plot events.

- Your concern about forewarning for long-term effects is legit! We'll be more clear in the future.

- I'm not sure if our (yours and ours) idea of mod guidance are the same, but-- like stated in the war draft, we will help anyone who comes to us for help. We're not going to constantly hold everyone's hand. I can think of two players that I have helped since becoming a mod, and at least two different ones the mods helped BEFORE I joined them. (One of them was me. I approached them several times and I even buttheads with them in chat sometimes so if I'm not kicked out and still have CR, then I really don't know what anyone is afraid of.)

We expect players to take the initiative. We have never denied anyone without a reason.

- The intention of removing dmail was to encourage players to make more public posts and be less insular with their CR. It wasn't to break established cliques, but to make it easier for characters not IN those cliques to get some CR going.

That said, we will work on a date to bring dmail back. I'll say that it probably won't be until after the war.

- Your reply was well thought and encouraging and eye opening, so we really appreciate you taking the time to give it.

- We definitely understand and will endeavor to be more balanced about positive/negative consequences.

- Save for one (me), all players who have received god-organs were given advanced notice of when and how it would occur. No one had a god-organ forced onto them. They were given the opportunity to decline. No one did.

- Rhys/Ezra addressed in war draft post.

- On the topic of allowing spoilers to different people for the sake of including players in plot, there are several factors that make this request complicated:
1) By the nature of this RP, mods can't always adhere strictly to our own guidelines. We react to character actions that may invent or remove opportunities. We struggle to find a balance between allowing player involvement while still maintaining a cohesive flow of plot, so that something done IC that we haven't accounted for doesn't completely derail everything.

2) We already DO spoil players for certain plots, depending on whether we think a character of theirs would fit nicely into a certain role (Alex with the greycloaks, Harriet as a diplomat) or whether an oncoming plot will affect certain characters (Chisaki possibly being stuck with the hunters when her CR is everywhere else). I will openly admit that I am MORE willing to spoil, work with, and include players who are PROACTIVE.

3) Meaning, we are not going to dish out special plot positions to players who are sitting on their hands waiting for it to be dished out for them. If you want to be involved, then come to us. We will do our best to involve you. This is what we have done with everyone who has approached us.

- The OOC reason for drumming up a war was explained in the war draft post. As for stripping dragonmail, the intention of removing it was to encourage players to make more public posts and be less insular with their CR. It wasn't to break established cliques, but to make it easier for characters not IN those cliques to get some CR going.

That said, we will work on a date to bring dmail back. I'll say that it probably won't be until after the war.

I want to respond to this specifically: the only characters getting left out of CR are due to OOC disinterest or inactivity

This is not true. I, personally, have characters that I am interested in playing but who cannot seem to get or keep casual CR, and thus end up inactive. Majestica, LeiLei, and Artemis specifically fall victim to this. Majestica and LeiLei I try to generate CR for through public posts, but no one responds, or there's very little interest in threading if I respond. I know they are not the only characters in this situation.

It is not true that if characters have no CR it's the player's fault for not playing hard enough. Public interaction is intended to allow for the easy generation of new CR and to let characters who normally wouldn't interact do so.

With dragonmail, the majority of posts on the OL comm were 1-1 threads between the sender and sendee(s). Even e-mail wasn't being used much to have group conversations that allowed for interaction between multiple characters at a time, and public posts were very few and far between. Our intention in taking away dragonmail was to force people to stop relying on it for all their non-logging interactions. I stand by this decision because it pushed many characters who otherwise never would have bothered into getting forum accounts, e-mail addresses, phone numbers, etc--opening up the potential for them to interact in ways other than by sending dmail letters, even once dmail has returned.

I have no problem with cliques. There's nothing wrong with playing with people you enjoy playing with. I do have a problem with people being insular to the point of exclusion. If characters can't break into a clique to generate new CR, of course they're going to be inactive. The reliance on dragonmail as the sole form of OL interaction made it much harder for some characters to build CR, especially characters who don't get much logging activity.

We are going to bring back dragonmail. As Mini said, likely not until after the end of the war. Until then, you, and your characters, will have to adapt.

What we'd really like to see is a stronger focus on public posting that allows characters to jump in and thread with each other in a low-commitment way.
