[MOD POST] - upcoming events

When we posted our outline for the war, we felt that the ensuing discussion and player involvement went really well. In that vein, we're repeating that for the next steps of phase II. Our goal is to generate discussion and allow players to influence the upcoming plots.

This post will also be serving as a meme post, in a sense. We encourage you to build off the events listed, but we would also like you to post your goals for your characters or even just a general wishlist of things you want to do with them, and if you see something someone else wants that sounds interesting to be a part of, discuss it with them. Let's get some personal-plot and character-arc ideas rolling!

Pacing and Events
Before we get into the description of things to come, we want to briefly talk about pacing and how we run events. Do you guys want to see more events, more quickly? Or would you rather we pace events out slower? Are two events per week too many? Since we’re moving into a plot-heavy part of the game, ultimately leading up to the finale, we’d like an idea of what kind of pacing works for everyone, OOC and IC.

Similarly, how much downtime do you want to see between plot arcs? We can put in breather weeks to an extent, but we’d like to know how much of a breather you guys would like. Also, bear in mind that IC weeks are now 3 OOC weeks, so full-length breather weeks might drag a bit.

If you have feedback on how we do this, please let us know in comments!

Nightmare Event
More details will be given on this when we get an official write-up for the event done. For now, don't forget to sign up with the characters you want involved!

Brief summary: the event will be long-term but will happen in cycles, so not all characters will be involved at the same time (mods will try very hard to slot people who asked to be together into the same cycles). They will be thrown into a collective nightmare every time they fall asleep, but will not be trapped asleep/comatose/whatever. They will be able to encounter others inside the nightmare and remember everything upon waking up, so it's a good opportunity to force characters together for CR who normally wouldn't have any reason to interact.

However, think of the nightmare environment like a building rather than a room: even if multiple characters are in the same wave, they can move between different rooms and don’t all have to be in the same place at once. There will be an event post for each cycle to allow for easy mingling, but you can also do one-on-one logs and the like.

Feel free to plan scenarios for this and ask if people want to be involved! Obviously you can plan it a little more in-depth once the event post gives everyone a clearer picture of what it entails, but if you know there's a scenario you ABSOLUTELY want to run and want others to be involved in, go ahead and do it here!

This will be starting Week 36 or 37, depending how long Kandre Volcano takes.

Las Vegas and Kandre Volcano
So you may have noticed that NPC, Lisa, boasting about her money here. This is connected to Kandre Volcano’s sudden activity and her apparent ability to predict the future plays into what is happening there. You might have also noticed another NPC, Deathbringer, being somewhat menacing towards her.

The Greycloaks are going to go after Lisa. People can try to save her if they want to, which will make finding out what’s happening with Kandre Volcano a lot easier. If you’d like to do this, let us know here!

Stopping Kandre Volcano from erupting is easier than stopping a volcano normally would be. The mods would prefer to not give away the exact cause (because we need some surprises!) but it will be fun and involve cooking. So if you want to help prepare an epic feast, here is your chance!

This will go down over Week 35 and 36, depending on pacing. The stuff with Lisa can start as soon as you guys want it to. It could be put up right now, if you want.

Greycloaks Attack!
The Greycloaks are about to get a lot busier.

First, there are two Greycloak factions. We will roughly call them the Assassin Faction and the Cleric Faction, but there is bleedover between the two groups and both have recruited a handful of members from other guilds. The Assassin Faction got what it wanted: a mostly smooth merge. Now their intention is what the assassin guild's goal has always been: breaking down the unfair power structure of society. That is, creating chaos and anarchy. They have more resources, generally speaking, and are led by the Armaiti (under the pseudonym of 'Tina'). The Cleric Faction wanted to resurrect Xumurdad. However, with both the former Vahishta and Alexander dead, they lost their leader and main hatchetman. For now, they’re just trying to hang on.

If you would like to have a character join the Greycloaks (or if you intend to app one), then you should decide which faction they're working with. Which is to say--yes! you can join/app into the Greycloaks! Contact the mods if you're interested and we'll discuss it with you.

The Assassin Faction is going to be causing some chaos soon, after the Kandre Volcano plot is resolved. Queen Omid will be visiting the Nenakret, and the Greycloaks will take advantage of a parade to attempt an assassination on her. Attempts may be made on other major figures present (Saftan leadership, Bastan leadership that may have accompanied Omid), but it is up to those players whether they'd like to be on the receiving end of such.

At the same time, the Assassin Faction will also be supporting Acher (if temporarily) in an attack on Enghelab. That means both events will be happening concurrently ICly, likely with the parade attack happening shortly before the first wave hits Enghelab. Plan now for where your characters are going to be. This is not intended to be another long-lasting war plot; we don't expect either of these events to take longer than two IC weeks to resolve.

Other Stuff
• We have two recurring Greycloak NPCs: Haldo, a cleric, and Deathbringer, an assassin. They'll be around, and people are free to interact with them, whether by running into them in a social context or as part of their Greycloak duties. The latter would mostly involve spying.

• There are also NPC opportunities with Darius! Darius is trying to learn more about the Dark. We will be contacting people (dependent on Tex’s schedule) about scenes relating to the Dark with him, but if you’re interested (or not) then feel free to mention.

• In the medium term, we will be introducing an eleventh guild. They will be necromancy- and dark knight-based, and they will be attempting to recruit people (and sometimes kidnapping them or their loved ones to force the decision). The exact details of how this happens deserves its own post closer to when it occurs, but if you want to have a character join it, keep it in mind.

• In the long term, we intend to resolve the two factions of the Greycloaks and deal with Xumurdad’s resurrection (which I think everyone knew was coming). We won’t give spoilers on how this all comes to pass. However, as you might guess, getting god-organs back from guild leaders will be the resurrectionists' primary goal. Remember when we asked if anyone would be interested in having their characters lose their god-organ? Ta-da! This is why!

So, if you would like your character to lose their god-organ, we can work with you. Perma-death only if you want it, resurrection if you don't, and it's even possible for them to get their guild status back one way or another. If you do not want your character to lose their god-organ we will not force it on you.

We still have a lot of ground to cover, but just so that everyone's clear on this: the Xumurdad resurrection plot is the end-game plot. The game will end either when the resurrectionists succeed or when they are decisively stopped.

A Brief Outline:
Week 34:
• Lisa Martinez makes bank betting on random occurrences related to Kandre Volcano
• Greycloaks take an interest in her
• Players may have heard rumours and may have heard her name attached to large donations made toward the Bastan and Undertow restoration efforts
• What are you gonna do about it?

Week 35:
• Kandre Volcano activity increases
• Greycloaks go after Lisa Martinez and either capture her or are prevented from capturing her, dependent on player actions (may also happen in week 34)
• Kandre Volcano plot may resolve here, dependent on player actions

Week 36:
• if Kandre Volcano plot is not already resolved, will resolve this week
• If Kandre Volcano is already resolved, Greycloak/Acher attack on Enghelab & Omid
• Nightmare plot begins(?), based on how busy the game seems at this point

Week 37:
• If Greycloak/Acher assault doesn't happen in week 36, happens here
• Nightmare plot begins or continues
